Turn your setup into lots and units.
For supported Forex pairs, FX Crypto Calculator shows standard lots, mini lots, micro lots and pip information in one result area.
How Forex position sizing works
Start with your planned risk amount. Divide it by the loss per lot between entry and stop loss. The calculation depends on stop distance, contract size, pip value and any conversion into your account currency.
Broker minimums and lot steps can change the tradable size and resulting planned risk.
A worked EURUSD example
Assume a USD account, a standard lot of 100,000 EUR, a 0.0001 pip and a lot step permitting 0.05 lots.
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Account balance | $1,000 |
| Chosen risk | 1% |
| Entry | 1.10000 |
| Stop loss | 1.09800 |
| Optional take profit | 1.10400 |
The planned risk is $10. The stop is 20 pips from entry. Under these assumptions, one standard lot has a pip value of $10. A size of 0.05 lots equals 5,000 EUR units and risks $10 across that stop distance.
At this size, pip value for the position is $0.50. The example take profit is 40 pips away, giving $20 potential reward and a 1:2 risk/reward ratio.
These figures exclude spread, fees, slippage and execution differences. The screenshot shows a separate GBPUSD setup; it is not the illustration above.
Lots are different from units.
Under the 100,000-unit standard-lot convention, 0.05 standard lots is 5,000 units, 0.5 mini lots or 5 micro lots. Verify your broker’s contract before using the result.
